Winter at Mill Creek!
Imagine looking out a wintry window into a sea of silent snowy forest. Cozying up next to the heater or the fire pit with a cup of hot chocolate or hot tea, watching Netflix or Hulu, and treating yourself to a dip in the hot tub. What could be a better way to appreciate the winter wonderland?
However, you might be thinking, "what if snow interrupts my trip?". We want to alleviate that concern. If your trip is interrupted by weather (it shows and prevents you from coming, or you need to leave early due to an impending snowstorm), we commit to being as flexible as possible in re-booking the lost nights. We ask that the lost nights are re-booked and occur within 30-45 days of your original stay. We can't control if the cabins are already booked up for the dates you're available, but we will try to be as flexible as possible.
While we'll be flexible with you, we'll ask you to be flexible with us too!
-Breakfast will still be delivered, weather permitting! What we might do, depending on the weather, is deliver breakfast for your entire stay on the first day and you can heat it up as you go along.
-Stock the kitchen! Just in case it's too difficult to get out and about, make sure you have enough for a meal at home. There's a full kitchen, so you have all you need!
-We will plow as early as we can, but keep in mind that John has to plow himself out of his house, and the roads need to be plowed before he can get to you. So it could be midday or later, depending on the character of the storm.
Winter Events in the Finger Lakes
Mill Creek Cabins are a few miles away from the Seneca Wine Trail. The Seneca Wine Trail association offers a ton of awesome events to bring people in during the winter. The 2019 events haven't been announced yet, but here is a sampling of events held last year.
Enjoy the wineries in the wintertime, while they'll be decorated for the holidays. There will be holiday wine and food tastings at participating wineries.
November 16 - 18, 2018
November 30 - December 2, 2018
Cost is $58 per person or $80 for a couple
January 26, 2019
Let the wineries come to you! Head to the First Arena in Elmira and go from booth to booth tasting Finger Lakes wines. You don't have to worry about trudging around in the cold weather from winery to winery - you'll stay toasty at this event!
The following are events that occurred last year - 2019 dates to be announced...
Early December to the end of March
The winter season one of the best times to visit the wineries because the owners, winemakers, and vineyard managers are more likely to be in the tasting room. It's likely to be less crowded as well!
You buy the passport for about $30 (that's what it was last year), and the tasting fees at participating wines at participating wineries are waived. If you plan to go to more than 5-10 wineries throughout the season, this is a great deal for you!
Second week of January, Last year it was Jan 6-15
Participating wineries clean out their inventory and drop prices this week, not just on the wine, but on wine glasses, clothes, and other retail items.
Wineries are pairing wines with dishes prepared for sports parties, and finger foods.
Wineries will be preparing food from a variety of different nations, paired with their wine, and decorating their tasting rooms in the same theme. Each attendee enjoys a complimentary sample of the dish served by the winery, paired with three samples of wine that complement the dish best.
Finger Lakes has some really amazing cheeses - honestly some of the best I have ever had! Participating wineries are matched up with a creamery and attendees with tickets get 3-4 pairings of cheese with their wine. Tickets purchased in advance are just $25 per person.
